OTR Newtread (Pre Cure)
The manufacturing process of the Mine and Quarry NewTread differs from OTR's standard Smooth & Groove retreading process, utilising a preformed tread made of synthetic compounds, similar to that of a new tyre, which is vulcanised onto a prepared casing.
Worn tyres are initially inspected using OTR's Earthscan ultrasonic tyre scanning system to ensure the tyre's 'retreadibility'. The remaining tread is then removed and the casing prepared for retreading.
Once the new tread is applied, the tyre is enclosed in an inner and outer vacuum envelope, which provides the pressure to secure the tread onto the casing during vulcanisation. Curing takes place in a water autoclave at only 95 degrees - the lower curing temperature is much kinder to the casing and results in greater casing reliability.
The result - a NewTread tyre on an existing casing, giving new tyre qualities at retread costs.
