OTR Tyres Ltd, one of the world's leading Earthmover tyre specialists, have just installed the largest 'bead to bead' fully automated tubeless remould Earthmover tyre press in Europe at their factory near Alfreton, Derbyshire. With state of the art technology, the new piece of equipment weighed in at over 75tons. Following installation at OTR's Somercotes headquarters, the new remould press is already producing tyres that are out working.
Manufacturing Director, Darren Flint said: "Production of the new 2700R49 is going very well with several now back on working vehicles. Our remould processes are now producing tyres that look as good as new and perform like it too". The current global earthmover tyre crisis has seen the company invest over £750k on this latest equipment, much of it designed by OTR to suit their customers' demands.
The advantages of the new remould press systems are that tyres can now be produced from compounds to suit customer requirements and tailor-made for individual sites, giving longer tyre life and reduced running costs. For OTR, the new remould process gives a tyre that replicates both new tyre image and performance and is less labour intensive than previous methods, allowing better use of resources in the factory.
Concluding, OTR MD Chris Skelton said "The current global earthmover tyre crisis has required radical rethinking by the largest tyre users and retreading has now become a very important part of their vehicle management. OTR have been at the forefront of earthmover tyre retreading for a number of years now and this latest investment is just another step in our development for our customers". In addition to a comprehensive UK service, OTR currently have supply, service and manufacturing operations in Africa and are developing interests in other key markets globally.
