OTR are supplying tyres and on-site services to PW International, employed by Resolute Mining at the Syama gold mine in Mali.
Located in the south of the country, the mine falls within the gold belt found throughout much of Western Africa. Mali is now Africa's third largest gold producer after Ghana and South Africa, and the Syama mine is the fourth largest in Mali - 20% being government owned.
Gold production forms the cornerstone of the Mali mining sector, representing 95% of the country's mineral production, other commodities, such as iron ore, diamond and bauxite are mined in small numbers.
The OTR contract includes the sourcing and supply of tyres for the fleet of CAT 785 trucks plus day to day service and repair. The on-site OTR team of engineers, are also training a number of local fitters, in keeping with OTR's philosophy of employment and involvement with the local communities. A new service truck has also been allocated to the project.
On-site operations began in 2006, and the first gold was poured in June 2009. Current estimates put the production rate at 250,000 ounces of gold per annum.
